Offenders benefit from the program for obvious reasons.
Such as, they can avoid having a criminal record for
their offense. Also, in most cases, the program fees
are less than the fines would be if imposed by the court.
They also don't have to worry about hiring an attorney
to defend them. Even if the defendant is appointed a
public defender, the defendant may have to pay them
for services rendered. The defendant also saves time
and money because now he or she doesn't have to go back
and forth and make numerous appearances in court or
in a classroom. (which saves everyone time and money)
The community also benefits by these programs because
taxpayers are not left paying for uncollected fines
or having to 'pick up the bill' for the defendants defense.
Now instead of being a menace to society, the defendant
can learn from their mistakes and still be a productive
member of the community. Instead of the defendant coming
away with a negative experience concerning the justice
system, they feel grateful for the opportunity they
have been given to start over. The community also benefits
from the program by having increased employment opportunities.
